I looooved Fenyx Rising! My husband and I played it til 4am one New Year’s Eve / Day, about 90% completion until we decided we should go to bed 🫠 I definitely felt like it deserved a sequel, or one was planned and then scrapped.

I would love Tunic to have a sequel but I don’t think it would be as magical the second time around. 😭

There really hasn't been anything quite like Tunic since. I think if you liked the style of puzzles and a little bit of action, you might want to check out Phoenotopia Awakening, which is a sidescroller and a lot less... abstract in the puzzle department, but still the sort of thing you'll probably need to make notes for. For more similar puzzles that require lateral thinking, I think Void Stranger does everything good Tunic does with a lot less of what I consider bad puzzle design, and for great isometric action, either CrossCode or Unsighted are excellent even if their puzzle design is a bit more Zelda-like than real lateral-thinking and note-taking.

Oooo, noted all of these and will be getting them. Because you’re right, there isn’t been much like Tunic! I’m giving instructions to my kid that when if I get dementia, just put me in front of Tunic every day so I get to have the joy of playing it for the “first time” again 😅

Jak and Daxter 4, Chrono Trigger 2, Phantasy Star 5, Ristar 2… I’m sure there’s plenty more but those are the ones that come to the top of mind 😃

Immortal Fenyx Rising never got the shot it deserved, and almost everyone I know who played it had a blast with it. Definitely one that sequel could've potentially pushed into the mainstream.

Tyranny is one of those things that just makes me sad to think about. It's pretty much an amazing first two chapters of a game that was never finished but could have been among the best RPGs of all time if it was. It literally ends right as the game starts to introduce your awakening ability to shape the world and your epic lair and all of that. Complete gut punch every time I remember Tyranny and have to remind myself that it will never deliver on all that.

This is an awesome list, and a great topic. Stray Gods (Summerfall Studios) is Aussie. I’ll keep my ear to the ground for you for a sequel.

Absolutely agree with Sunset Overdrive, it's just a fantastic game brimming with energy. I play it every now and again just to bounce around, it's a great antidote to grey weather.

I really dislike the tower defence sections but I can look past that just because the rest of the game is so much fun

Great list. Especially seeming these games all had so much potential but seemed to be rejected by their own publishers after release.

I’d love a proper red faction guerrilla sequel, the sequel they made was absolute horseshit and was nothing like the original
